Residence registration for long term foreign residents
All foreign nationals who enter Japan with a status of residence valid for a medium or long term receive a Resident Card. Once they decided their place of residence, they must visit their local municipal office within 14 days, fill the Moving-in Notice and submit it together with their Residence Card to register their address.

(*) Please note that in some cases local and other minor airports may be unable to issue Resident Cards. In that case, a seal stating that your Resident Card will be issued later is sticked on your passport and you will have to visit your local municipal office, fill the Moving-in Notice and submit it together with your passport to receive your Resident Card.

Reporting a change of address

In case your address changes, you must report the change to your local municipal office within 14 days from when you move and submit your Resident Card to allow the officers to register your new address on your card.

Reporting other changes (Status, Period of Stay, etc.)

In case other information (Visa Status, Period of Stay, etc.) included in your Resident Card change, please visit or inquire the Immigration Bureau of Japan.
