Registration of Name Seal

A seal registered at the city office is called official seal (jitsuin). It comes with a Seal Certificate (Inkan Shoumeisho), which is a document that certifies the registration of the seal in use as the official seal. When you register your seal, the officer at the city hall will issue a Seal Registration Card (Inkan Tourokushou) or Seal Pocketbook (Inkan Techou). By showing this document to the officer at the counter, you can also receive a Certificate of Seal Registration (Inkan Touroku Shoumeisho).
In Japan you need an official seal and the related Certificate of Seal Registration to make an important contract such as buying lands, houses or cars.
