Medical Treatment

The Japanese medical system provides health care to all persons at a low cost. The system is divided into hospitals (large and small, public and private), where you can stay overnight, and consultation-only clinics.

Emergency Treatment

◆ Ambulance
If you need an ambulance, dial 119. The operator will ask you which service you would like. Answer “kyuukyuu desu (ambulance)”. Provide the operator with as much information as possible about the location and condition of the patient, and then wait. If you are unable to make yourself clearly understood, leave the phone off the hook, your address will be traced.

◆ When You Need To See Doctor at night
If you need to see a doctor during the night, you have to go to the Maebashi Emergency Medical Center. This center is open from 8:00pm until midnight throughout the year.

Non-emergency Treatment

Some hospitals allow you to make an appointment in advance by phone. The procedure for taking treatment is as follows:

1.  At the Reception Desk, first time patients to each and every department in the hospital must fill out a patient general information form, show your insurance card, and wait for a patient ID card for that department to be made.
**If you have already visited the department that you are going to, you may proceed to step 2.
2.  Hand your ID card into the reception, then proceed to the department, and wait for your number to be called.
3.  When your name or number is called, go to the consultation room.
4.  After your consultation, proceed to the Accounting Section, where you will be given the bill for your medical treatment when you name is called.
5.  Proceed to the Payments Section and pay your bill.
6.  Lastly, wait at the Pharmacy to pay for and receive your medicines.
** Remember to take your Health insurance Card, or you may be liable for 100% of the medical costs.
